Book Arts Residency
Booksmart Studio and Innova Digital Art Paper will be announcing a one month juried residency competition in the Spring. More information will be posted in March on the application process, along with who may apply. The selected artist/photographer will work for one month in our state of the art facilities to create a fine edition book. This book will be published by Booksmart Studio and the artist/photographer will leave with copies for their personal use.
This collaboration
will allow for two residencies throughout the year, we have broken it
down to one for artists and another for photographers. The Fall
residency will be for photographers and the Spring residency will be
for artists. The residency program is scheduled to start in the Fall of
2007.

2008 Book Arts Residency
The 2008 Book Arts Residency is geared towards photographers that are looking to publish a limited edition book of their artwork. The winning photographer will live in Rochester, NY for one full month in the Winter of 2008 or Spring of 2009. The photographer will work on their personal design and layout of their book at Booksmart Studio. The photographer's book will be printed in our studio utilizing any of our digital printing techniques available.
Upon completion of the residency 75 copies of the photographers book will be published, the photographer will leave with 10 copies. To promote the publishing of the limited edition book Booksmart Studio will donate 15 copies to influential galleries & museums. The remaining 50 books will be sold and 15% of the sale will be paid to the photographer. Finally, once the books have been published, the photographer will be provided an exhibition in our 1,500 square foot gallery along with a book signing.
The photographer will live in downtown Rochester, NY in a single bedroom apartment. A stipend of $500 will be awarded to the winning photographer for gas & food.
