Spray Coating
Booksmart Studio is able to coat all
Fine Art Metal prints completed by our studio in our dedicated spray
booth. Please remember that these sprays MUST be used in a well
ventilated area to protect yourself from the overspray, we also
recomend using a respirator. The spray coating of the metal provides a
different aesthetic compared to the lamination process, it preserves
the natural characteristics of the metal surface.
Application techniques
The staff at Booksmart Studio first
applies Clearstar AFA Semi-Gloss in a checkerboard pattern:
top-to-bottom and then side-to-side with three coatings in this
pattern. We then use the Clearstar AFA Gloss
applied with the same checkerboard pattern until we create the desired
surface characteristic the artist was looking for. Often times, we
spray the Clearstar AFA Gloss for 3-7 coatings.
Please remember to always spray in a well ventilated area or use proper safety equipment!
So what do you use to coat the materials?
Booksmart Studio works with the ClearStar coating, AFA Gloss or Semi-Gloss depending on the finish that is desired by our artists/photographers. We also supply the coating in our online store. The aerosol spray is $11.99 per can.
