Lamination

Booksmart Studio's preferred method for protecting Fine Art Metal prints completed in our studio is utilizing our DryTac Jetmounter cold laminator. Lamination is a very durable technique that can be used to protect the ink sitting on the metal after printing. We recommend cold film lamination with either the semi-gloss, gloss, or textured luster finish.

What about using a service bureau?
One must test local laminating services to make sure they will not scratch the surface due to uneven rollers. Individuals in the past have had trouble with certain service bureau's machines scratching the metal print because of careless workers. Please remember to also test your chosen lamination for durability as some films will scratch fairly easily. We have found that semi-matte or semi-gloss films tend to be the strongest.

Please remember that the ink sitting on the fine art metal is NOT waterproof or scratch resistant until your either laminate or spray coat.

What if I want to buy a laminator?

The same 26" DryTac cold laminator that we use in our studio for laminating prints and the metal is available from Booksmart Studio for $995.00 plus $75 freight. The laminator can be found in our store at the following link, Jetmounters.
