Editing & Designing an Artist Book
Who should attend this workshop
This workshop is
for photographers, visual artists and authors who have assembled a body
of work and would like to edit this work to subsequently produce an
artist's book.
Description: The workshop will address how careful
editing can refine and amplify the expressive content of the
participant's work. I n practical terms the workshop will address
issues of image selection and sequencing, the incorporation of text and
the choice of book structure.
Participants are asked to
bring proof prints of the work they would like to incorporate in their
work and a selection of text. This text can either be their own work or
that of an author/poet/critic (preferably copyright free) they admire.
Fees: $250.00 plus $40 for supplies
Enrollment: (5) MacIntosh users & (2) PC users
Day 1
Morning session- The instructor will show examples of his books and discuss the logic and reason for their form.
Afternoon Session- Participants will show their work in turn and discuss what it is they want to achieve and how they might go about achieving it. This will be a serious workshop activity and each person's work will be thoroughly "brainstormed" by the group.
Day 2
Morning Session- Participants
will make a preliminary dummy or maquette. This will, in the first
instance, address issues of content and how this content can be
amplified and clarified through careful page layout.
Afternoon Session Participants will be shown a variety of computer techniques to construct a document. A discussion of when to choose Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress to construct a book.
