Pixel to The Bookshelf
Pixel to the Bookshelf (5 days)
This workshop will take you through the entire process of designing a book from digital files to a bound book. A series of photographs or digital art will be laid out into a book utilizing Adobe InDesign and then printed using Epson printing technology. Each artist will complete two proof layouts to be reviewed by workshop participants before final printing. Upon completion each artist's book will be bound before departing the workshop. Each artist's book will be a case-bound book with varying sizes. Prerequisite: Working knowledge of InDesign (Pixel to Book) and digital printing basics (Book to Print).
Workshop participants must submit a minimum of 15 digital files prior to registering, demonstrating a body of work ready for producing a book.
Fees: $500.00 plus $120 for supplies
Enrollment: (5) MacIntosh users & (2) PC users
Day 1
Morning session- Tour of Booksmart Studio facilities and viewing of previous book work. Look at prints or digital files from each artist and discuss size, layout, sequencing consideration.
Afternoon Session- Look at first proof examples with prints participants printed prior to arriving. Discuss page layout & digital imaging issues while utilizing Adobe Photoshop & InDesign to design a book.
Day 2
Morning Session- Work on laying out second proof of book with Indesign & Photoshop. Discuss digital imaging issues and digital printing techniques.
Afternoon Session- Discuss imposition, text usage, and start printing second proof of books. Continue lay out of digital books.
Day 3
Morning Session- Discuss second proof of books, finalize size, sequencing, and text usage
Afternoon Session- Finalize page layout and start printing
Day 4
Morning Session- Print digital books and make final corrections.
Afternoon Session- Print digital books and make final corrections. Discuss printing technologies for book publishing.
Day 5
Morning Session- Finalize printing of digital books & start bookbinding
Afternoon Session- Finalize bookbinding & discuss binding alternatives
